Prototype blog

For the prototype our team created many features that would be prominent in our game

Pretty simple concept. W,A,S,D to move, Shift to run, Ctrl to crouch. Moving is pretty basic, running to let the player choose at what speed they want to play at, and crouch to go under obstacles to progress through the game.

A bit more complex the interaction feature is a crucial aspect to the game. Interaction will be used to do the following: Open doors, pick up keys, and read notes. Interaction is used to both continue through the sawmill to escape and to read notes to get key information for the story. The button in the prototype is to show that pressing 'E' will make the button change to the color green.

Doors are an important part of the game because it separates different areas only opened by keys, which i will explain in the next feature, making it so you have to take time to both find the key and read notes that may be around. Doors are only opened by the keys that corresponds to the color of the door. For example if the door is blue only the blue key can open it. Otherwise trying to open the door will result in a small shake of the door.

Keys, as previously mentioned, are important for opening doors, this may be its only use but keys help give the player something to look for and focus on their surroundings. Keys are picked up using the interact key 'E'

Notes are important because it tells the story of both the sawmill and the connection between the father and sons. These can be found spread around the map telling the player more about the situation that the two sons, Eric and Brad, are facing.
