Today we talked about the idea about a game concept revolving around an RPG Western. It also shows how Bethesda can handle this task because they have an extensive background with the RPG genre. But we also talk about how Bethesda will need to improve to give a satisfying experience for a western shooter.

Concept 1

  1. Choose a game publisher and research the types of games released by this publisher.
Bethesda Game Studios:
The Elder Scrolls
Fallout

  1. Identify any gaps in the current range of products, processes that has been made available by the publisher.
RPG Western

  1. Explore and brainstorm ideas for new products or services beyond the obvious.  Report what you have discovered in the brainstorming process below.

            Interesting characters with diverse backgrounds
            Perks and skills
Character customization

  1. List some factors that would have an impact on the products or services you have suggested in the previous question including its potential for commercialisation.

Bethesda already has experience in a RPG format, they just need to develop a new story and world to connect with it.

They need to make the shooting aspect of the game feel satisfying which Bethesda has struggled with in the past.

  1. Research and report on other game publishers to determine if other companies are filling identified gaps or investigating similar opportunities.

Rockstar Studios’ game “Red Dead Redemption” is also a western based shooting that lacks the RPG elements.

  1. Give a summary of your proposal of a new idea for a new game concept or service that addresses a need or opportunity for the company.

A RPG Western is a genre of video games that has not been explored yet with the western genre in general has also been very quiet in terms of games. With a company such as Bethesda that has a lot of experience with RPG games it can be a very beneficial game concept.

What makes this Profitable?

Western RPG hasn't really been explored and you already have a majority of the assets from previous titles making it more cost efficient.

What is different? How does it stand apart?

It can stand apart from other westerns by having diverse characters and a more realistic purpose to the game. In other other westerns the combat is basically boiled down to "there's bad guys go shoot them." In this game it can have more fleshed out story that can give purpose to the character.

How can the player choose different characters?

Maybe the player can choose between a male and female character so they can explore how both genders were treated back in the western days. Or maybe there's different characters that have different lifestyles such as one could be a sheriff that can go out and do his job. Or a different character that is a notorious looter that can loot items and fight when he gets caught.
